Wave Project

PLANNING: I made some sketches:

COMPREHENSIVES:
As I was sketching this "final" Jones suggested I make the surfer Boothbysaurus Rex. I'm not sure if I'll do that yet but he's where the surfer will be, so.
ASSEMBLY: So here's my first draft. It moved away a little form my original sketches, and it looks weird, like it's not real enough. So suggestions would be welcomed.

New Idea*

*Post in Progress

IDEA: Create a wave of fire (possibly morph it into water?) that has a surfer and a fire breathing dolphin. And maybe Godzilla.

SPECS: Not any, really.

RESEARCH: So far, this has been the most promising tutorial, but I'd like to use this one too. I also want to add smoke. I'm not sure if I'm going to blend the water and the fire together but I guess it's a possibility. Off to sketch!

Crew T-shirt Part 2

PLANNING: Sketches will be up after Hell Week
COMPREHENSIVES: I make a pretty picture:

Isn't it pretty?

Crew T Shirt

IDEA: A t-shirt for crew.
SPECIFICATIONS: It needs to be awesome.
RESEARCH: cafepress will let me make a t-shirt. I do not research what crew would like because I decide what they will like. End of story.

New post because Boothby says so

Finally almost finished with the windows for the play. Hopefully they'll be all printed and framed and backlit by the end of the week.
For my next project, I will be designing a Crew t-shirt. I don't know if it'll be all black with dark gray designs so we can wear it during shows or just a regular t-shirt. I'll figure this out later.

I GET TO WORK ON MY WINDOW!!!!!!!

Woo!
After much phonetag I have discovered that Joe wants the window to be: he doesn't care. I'm in charge of size, so I'm making it 3.5'x6'. Bubba's able to print this, and I'm going to send Joe jpegs of the pictures for the windows so he can approve them before I print.

In-Between Project

As I still do not have the dimensions for my lovely picture windows yet, I'm going to put that project on hold for now. Instead, I think I'm going to design a t-shirt. I recently got a Vandelay Industries t-shirt online, but Jones just pointed out to me that I could have designed one and possibly made/saved some money. Therefore, I will be researching and creating some t-shirt designs (I would have sketched but I literally thought of this 2 minutes ago) until I can get measurements for my window.

Window Update

I've began work on the Paris window for the set. I found a good picture on the internet and live traced it in Illustrator, so it can be resized to a very large picture with minimal blurring. However, the size is still unknown. Mr. Kenner emailed Joe with this question but I have not seen either so I still have no answer. Sigh. This really annoys me.

You know what else annoys me? Slow people blocking the hallways. This school needs a fast lane like yesterday. I may just tape one out with set tape sometime.

You know what ELSE annoys me? Naviance. I took the career matcher quiz thing, and all the questions were : Would you like to bag groceries? Would you like to file papers? Would you like to sing? Would you like to dance? Would you like to garden? Would you like to sing on Broadway? etc. etc. etc. over and over again. Out of ~168 questions, I had 3 likes and 5 unsures. Nothing on graphic design. Nothing on engineering. A little on set design. Very sad.

Sorry. Done ranting. Will work on Latin project until I get dimensions for window.

Picture Window

My first project will be to create two picture windows for the school drama. I'm not sure what the exact dimensions are yet, but it's going to be pretty big so I'm going to create it in parts. It's supposed to be the view from hotel windows in New York and Paris. I kind've want the New York window to look like this. But, you know, from 1920. I also have to make sure people know it's New York, but that's kind've difficult because the Empire State Building, one of the two icons of NY (I'm not using the Statue of Liberty) wasn't built yet. So yeah. I haven't researched Paris as much, but I don't think I will be using skyscrapers as central Paris does not have many buildings over eight stories high. I'm also going to experiment with the material I print it on, backlighting it, etc. So it should be totally super fun!

Back to School/ New Projects

And so it begins.
Again.
You'd think after 11 years you'd get used to it. You'd be wrong.

But school's not totally terrible right? I mean, with the start of school comes many things, many wonderful things, including but not limited to hockey preseason, colder weather, and crew!

Which brings me to the real purpose of this blog: it's for Graphic Design class. No sob stories here. Hopefully. And on this wonderful blog, I am supposed to ask for help/ideas/etc about projects I will be working on during class.

Can I get a HOORAH!?
No?

Well, ok. Here are my ideas:

  • As mentioned above, I'm in crew. As in, Theatre Crew. You know, set design, set building, props... I'm actually in charge this year! And my first order of business is to create a large (unspecified dimensions) picture window showing 1920s New York and Paris views, from a hotel room. In color, so it looks like you're actually looking out of the window. Yeah.
  • I'd also like to make a small but awesome looking calendar. Which is boring. I know. But it won't be boring if it's awesome, right? Ideas welcome.
  • I'd also like to design tattoos for my Halloween costume (Abby from NCIS) but that leaves me with the annoying problem of finding tattoo paper that you can print on. Um. Yeah.
  • Because I am now an annoying fangirl, I would absolutely love to make an awesome 2010-2011 season poster for the NJ Devils. And no, I am not on the Kovalchuk bandwagon. So there.
  • Edward Cullen/Justin Bieber dartboard. Just because.
Hopefully, I will be able to do all of this while not getting distracted by my friend Turtle (we all have animal names, aren't we like, sooooooo cool?)

P.S. This is a bad representation of my awesome fangirl poster ideas, but kind've along the lines of it, so why not? Hopefully mine will be even better.

I in no way am responsible for this picture.
